Slow coffee.
Sharp brunch.

Tables worth staying at in the centre of York.

A small neighbourhood café behind Micklegate. We bake before dawn, run brunch until 3, keep room for walk-ins, and host private tables when the shutters come down.

§ 01 — The café

A tight menu, steady service, and a room that works from first cup to final plate.

We're not trying to be everything. We do a small menu well, keep the service steady, and make sure the café works for weekday regulars as much as weekend bookings.

Five minutes from York station, just behind Micklegate — close enough for quick breakfasts, relaxed enough for long catch-ups. House pastries land at 10:30 every morning.

§ 03 — Why people come back

The café feels easy because the decisions behind it are not.

Better service is usually just better structure. We keep the menu tight, the room clear, and the booking rules honest, so the visit feels relaxed from the outside.

  1. 01

    Kitchen-led menu

We change dishes because ingredients shift, not because the chalkboard needs fresh theatre. If the produce is off, the dish is off.

  2. 02

    Service that reads the room

Fast enough for pre-train breakfasts, patient enough for long catch-ups, never built around turning tables at any cost.

  3. 03

A café that works beyond brunch

Coffee stays sharp all day, the counter remains open after lunch, and the room shifts naturally into private tables and evening hires.

  4. 04

    Clear rules, no nonsense

Weekend bookings are timed because service matters. Large tables get real communication. Allergies and access are handled properly before you arrive.

§ 04 — The room

Forty seats. No noise.

Counter at the front, tables in the middle, a back room that takes private hires of up to twenty-four. Open kitchen along one wall.

§ 05 — Private hire

Small celebrations.
Tables that still feel like this café.

The back room takes private groups without losing the atmosphere that makes the daytime trade work. Simple menus, relaxed room, clear process — organisers aren't left chasing details.

Fixed menus from

£24 per head

Includes pastry, two plates and unlimited drip coffee.

Group size

8 – 24 guests

The back room comfortably seats twenty-four around one long table.

Ideal for

Teams, families, launches

§ 06 — In their words

"Best coffee on this side of Micklegate,
and the only brunch room in town
that still feels calm when it's packed."

One note a month — what's on the counter, the next supper club, the odd recipe.
